Real Wedding: Catherine & Sam

Catherine and Sam met while in the band at Auburn University. Only fitting that they came back down the aisle to a strings version of "War Eagle"-- the Auburn Fight Song. Catherine is a pink loving, girly girl and we had so much fun with her color palette and favorite flower - peonies! It's always a good day when we get to work with color, and an especially good day when that color is pink!

How did Sam propose?

On my family beach trip to Gulf Shores, AL. I was told that we were doing a surprise family photoshoot for my mom's upcoming birthday. I truly had no idea that it was coming, and was genuinely surprised. My sister gave no hints, as we even went and got our nails done together and when given a choice between a hot pink polish and a nice light pink, she chose the aggressive hot pink. He even incorporated my nephew, by having him wear a onesie that said, "Aunt Cece, will you marry Uncle Sam?".

This bouquet!!! Catherine's choice of color palette and love for peonies were a match made in heaven for us.

What did you obsess over during the planning process?

I am obsessed with flowers. I think they truly make any wedding and I love the versatility in how they can be used in the design of a wedding. From wreaths, to archways, to ceiling installations, I really love them all!

We found this ivy wall in downtown Birmingham when we went to take some photos and cannot even believe how stunning they turned out! Obsessed.

What's your advice for newly engaged couples?

If you are anything like me, get a planner. Some of us just don't have that brain for planning and making lists and such, and it is so nice to have someone else guide you through it and make sure you get everything on your to-do list checked off.

Instead of a traditional Groom's cake, Sam opted for Baby Bites - a Birmingham staple. Let's just say, this table was one of the most popular spots at the reception!

What was most important to you during planning?

I am a pretty simple girl, so I really wanted it to be beautiful and elegant, while still being true to who we are as a couple. For Sam, he wanted to make sure that his love of food was shown through our menu, For me, I wanted who we are to show through our ceremony choices and the atmosphere we created.
